Hill Tribes (cont.):
Lua or Lawa - Lua or Lawa people (girl)- Lua or Lawa, believe that their origin was from south of Thailand, Malaya or Cambodia around more than 2,000 years ago. In present, Lua people are a minority cultural group native to Laos and significantly populated in Laos, Northern provinces of Thailand (Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son) and the United States (the states of California, Minnesota, Tennessee, Washington, Iowa and Illinois). Most Lua people speak Thai language as their first language even they have their own languages which depending upon their habitats.

One husband one wife marriage is their culture. The wife will move into her husband’s home and respect her husband’s passed away ancestors’ spirits. The eldest son needs to build a new family home by himself after marriage, but the youngest son will inherit his parents’ properties and take care of his parents through the life.

Unmarried Lua girls dress loose white blouses, and wear the distinctive strings of bright yellow and orange beads on the neck. After marriage, they still wear the beads, but the brightly colored clothes are replaced with a long fawn dress.

Hill Tribal Crafts - Tai Lue People (boy)- Tai Lue or Dai Lue, the origin of Tai Lue was established in Sipsongpanna of China in the 12th century. In middle of 1949 A.D. (2492 B.E.), they immigrated into Chiang Rai province of Thailand around 20 homesteads. Now Tai Lue people inhabit many provinces of Northern Thailand; Chiang Rai (at Mae Sai), Chiang Mai (at Samoeng & Doi Saket), Nan, Phayao, Lampang and Lamphun. There are also Tai Lue people in Burma (Myanmar), Laos and Vietnam.

Almost all Tai Lue people are stringent Buddhists. They build a lot of magnificent architectures in every temple of their community, and maintain all of them in nice condition till today.
